Job summary
As a team, Zone 5-19 are excited to be in a position, to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated and innovative, experienced Contraception and Sexual Health Nurse into our successful Young People's Health And Wellbeing Service.
The duties of this post will include, providing evidence based specialist sexual health care in one-to-one interventions, supporting young people on issues relating to their sexual and reproductive health, risk behaviours, wellbeing and related issues. This may involve utilising skills such as motivational interviewing.
They will actively promote positive sexual health advice through health education in the community, such as in schools and at outreach sessions
There will be the requirement to work some unsocial hours, including Saturdays.

Main duties of the job
- To work within the contraception and sexual health clinics offering advice and treatments to the public who request contraception and sexual healthcare.
- To act in a responsible manner, being courteous at all times with sensitivity towards the needs of the individual patient, recognising their right to dignity and privacy.
- Personally communicate, counsel and empathise with clients being dealt unpleasant news e.g. positive test results or unplanned pregnancy.
- Advise, counsel and educate individuals of all ages on matters relating to sexual & reproductive health. Take account and assess the needs of the under 16's when necessary.
- Advise clients and refer as appropriate in matters relating to wanted or unwanted pregnancy, supporting informed choice
- To provide training and education with multi-disciplinary teams outside of the clinical setting.
- To liaise with other disciplines and agencies and refer clients on to other health disciplines and agencies as appropriate to their needs e.g. refer to doctor led clinic, termination of pregnancy service, child protection service when working in nurse led clinics.
- Undertake minor invasive procedures e.g. swabs, Implant fitting or removal
- Assess, diagnose and treat genital conditions.
- Supply medicines under Patient Group Directions.
