Job summary
Trust Grade Doctor Post in Mental Health
The successful applicant will support the Rotherham Mental Health Older Adult inpatient wards and Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment Team.
This post will allow the successful applicant to develop their psychiatric competencies as well as equipping them with the attitude and skills for continued personal development throughout their professional career. They will learn to apply the principles of evidence-based medicine in their everyday practice and develop a range of core clinical skills including bio-psycho-social risk assessment and collaborative risk management planning. They will be operating within Multi-Disciplinary Teams and the wider NHS systems with a particular focus on the interface between physical and mental health.
The successful applicant will be expected to undertake regular clinical supervision with an identified supervisor. The Trust also operates a mentorship scheme, and this will be available to the successful applicant.
This is a full-time post, and it is expected that clinical contact (DCC) will comprise 80% of the working week with the other 20% dedicated to non-clinical administration, CPD, QIP/service development, research and teaching dependent on the special interests of the successful candidate (SPA).
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the role will include:
- history taking
- mental state examination
- physical examination
- collateral history
- formulation and differential diagnosis
- writing of discharge letters
- e- prescribing
- MDT working in old age psychiatry and the essence and importance of skilled members of the MDT to assess and manage older patients, often with long term conditions.
- Assessment and diagnosis of functional disorder in older adults such as severe depression, anxiety, psychosis, BPAD.
- Assessment and diagnosis of dementia subtypes
- Formal cognitive assessments
- Behavioural and Psychological Symptom of Dementia management
- Neurology interface - Parkinson, Stroke, MS
- Theoretical awareness and clinical exposure to Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity assessments including DOLS and Safeguarding
- Audit opportunities
- Capacity assessments and documentation
- Observation of ECT.
