Job summary
An opportunity has arisen with the Specialist Children in Care CAMHS Team in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, for a suitably qualified mental health clinician with post graduate experience working with children and families and ideally with Looked after Children and their care network.
We are interested in receiving applications from experienced clinicians including those who have a formal therapy qualification e.g. Art Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Systemic Therapists, Play Therapists, CBT therapists or from experienced CAMHS practitioners from other professional backgrounds e.g. Social Workers, Mental Health Nurses who can show evidence of therapeutic training and experience.
The successful candidate will have knowledge of Complex Trauma, Attachment Theory, Therapeutic Re Parenting and experience in applying this knowledge in working with young people, their foster family and the wider care network including social workers, education staff, leaving care staff, and other professionals working with young people. In addition the successful candidate would also ideally have training and experience in using Theraplay and/or Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) informed techniques.
The role is very varied offering lots of opportunities for skill development in consultation, delivery of training, formulation, systemic working and therapeutic support to young people and family's.
Main duties of the job
There are a number of core aspects of the role as follows:
A key part of the role is Trauma and Attachment informed Consultation and Advice through Team Around the Child meetings (known locally as Tiered Foster Care Meetings). We place lots of value on multi agency working with Children and Family Services, the Fostering Team, Foster Carers and residential home staff and school staff. A key part of this working together is to develop a shared formulation and understanding of the presenting difficulties in order to ensure a consistent and co-ordinated response to meeting the young person's needs and the family's needs.
The successful candidate will be able to use assessment and formulation skills with young people and the wider support network.
The successful candidate will be able to engage young people in therapeutic support and work creatively and integrate different approaches in order to work towards the therapeutic goals identified by the young person.
Being able to think and work systemically with young people and their foster parents is also a core aspect of the role.
The Team provide Attachment and Development Training each year and this training is part of Foster Carer mandatory training in North Lincolnshire whilst also being available to other staff working with children and families. Delivery of this training is a further aspect of the role.
As part of the team the post holder will also contribute to continuous improvements in service delivery and development.
