Catering Assistant

Job summary

The post-holder will work as part of the catering team to provide ancillary services directly to patients, service users, and customers by preparing, cooking and portioning a range of nutritionally sound, palatable and safe meals, using traditional and cook freeze methods of catering. This role is predominantly based in St John's Hospice on the Tickhill Road Hospital Site, but there is a requirement to cover in the main kitchen as required.

A range of duties are covered from the start of the food preparation service through to the delivery to point of use, serving, cleaning and managing stock levels in line with legislative and local policy and procedures

Main duties of the job

• All food handlers have a legal obligation to maintain a high degree of personal cleanliness and wear suitable, clean and where necessary, protective clothing.
• No person suffering from, or being a carrier of, a foodborne disease, or afflicted with infected wounds, skin infections, sores or diarrhoea is to be permitted to handle food or enter any food handling area in any capacity if there is a likelihood of direct or indirect contamination.
• Contribute to and ensure the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) system is adhered to at all times
• Contribute to the effective communication with ward staff, the kitchens, dietician and nutritionist and patient/service users to provide a comprehensive therapeutic meal service
• Providing food for both the Inpatient ward, Day Hospice and the Hospice Caf
• Collecting menu choices from patients each day
• Plating food up and serving to patients in both areas with assistance where needed from Nursing staff
