Job summary

Exciting opportunity for an individual to join our South Locality Community Mental Health Team for band 5 rotation for an Occupational Therapist who wishes to pursue rotational options in Rotherham. The rotational posts offer an excellent opportunity for an occupational therapist wishing to further develop their knowledge and skills and provide evidence based occupational therapy assessment and intervention for people with complex mental health needs and Learning Disabilities needs.

Based in Rotherham, you will rotate through a range of mental health clinical settings that will offer a variety of experiences and provide a strong base from which to commence your career. With rotations lasting 6 months, you will be joining several supportive multidisciplinary teams with a focus on delivering rehabilitation and recovery in the Rotherham Community. We offer rotation into the acute inpatient wards, including Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), working with Community Learning Disabilities Teams and more.

You will assess the occupational and vocational needs of service users enabling them to develop independent living skills and work towards individual recovery goals.

  • You should have a broad knowledge of current theory and best practice in occupational therapy
  • Knowledge of principles of a holistic, person centred approach to care, confident and effective communicator with service users, carers and staff of all professional groups as well as with external partner agencies.

Main duties of the job

To use effective professional interpersonal skills when discussing assessment and intervention with patients and carers with different levels of comprehension.

To refer individuals on to other professionals and agencies as appropriate to their need (e.g. Social Services)

To act as an advocate for service users and provide support and advice to their family and carers as appropriate.

To liaise closely with other professionals involved in service user care across the RDaSH footprint regarding clinical issues.

To work flexibly across the services, providing cover where necessary as part of a rota alongside senior OTs. This may not be in the service area that the post holder is normally based in.

To follow all Trust policies and protocols.

To work without direct supervision and take responsibility for managing own time and caseload and prioritising work within it.

To deliver clinical work within a variety of settings e.g. ward based, service user's home, community settings and abide by rules and regulations pertinent to those settings.

To manage clinical information in line with the service and Trust information requirements.

To contribute to departmental meetings and routines.

To document all intervention in patient records in accordance with professional standards and local guidelines.
