Job summary

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated Consultant Psychiatrist to join our Doncaster Adult Mental Health Unit. The unit itself consist of two 20 bedded wards and a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit with 6 beds. This is an exciting time to join RDaSH and you will be able to influence and shape our clinical models of care and treatment for our patients and work within a full multidisciplinary team which consists of nurse consultant and trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioners, pharmacist, clinical psychologists, occupational therapists, nursing staff and peer support workers.

We are looking for dynamic and flexible candidates with a good understanding of the role of the consultant and the ability to work in an appropriately boundaries way whilst displaying clear clinical leadership and support to the MDT. The post holder will be a leading member of the community multidisciplinary team. You will be primarily responsible for delivering a quality clinical service and also to be actively involved in the strategic development of the team and broader services, working with the Service Manager and the rest of the team to enhance and steer the development of the service.

Main duties of the job

The inpatient wards are aligned the four Doncaster Locality Teams (Central, South, East and North). Within our services we have Crisis and Home Treatment Service and our Community Mental Health Teams, all of which work with residents to prevent a hospital admission. However, when this can't be prevented, and a hospital admission is deemed necessary these teams will also work in conjunction with the inpatient MDT to ensure the inpatient stay is purposeful and of the shortest possible time to work towards the patients being managed in the community.

To work in collaboration with the MDT to ensure an excellent level of care for patients there, this will involve weekly MDT for the purpose of reviewing referrals, medication management, oversight of holistic treatment plan and future care/discharge planning.

You would be responsible for the preparation of psychiatric reports for and attendance at Mental health Tribunals, Hospital Managers Hearings and court reports.

Function as the Responsible Clinician for patients admitted to the unit under the Mental Health Act 1983 working and supported by the Nurse Consultant across the unit.

Provide supervision of medical and nursing staff as appropriate in the unit.

Involved in and take the medical lead in service development and implementation of any changes to practice tailored to meet local need.
