Consultant in Neurorehabilitation Medicine

Job summary

We are looking for a part time Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine. The remit of the post holder will be to work within the multidisciplinary team providing and further developing care for patients undergoing rehabilitation from all adult services, and to provide and develop Rehabilitation Medicine services for Rotherham Doncaster & South Humber Trust patients.

Magnolia Lodge is a 14 bedded neuro rehabilitation ward that provides a multidisciplinary rehabilitation service for adults with neuro conditions referred from both hospital and community settings. Referrals are received from the inpatient neurological and neurosurgical wards at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield and the acute wards at Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Rotherham General Hospital.

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the posts are to:

Address the medical needs of patients who are undergoing a programme of medical rehabilitation;

• Provide medical expertise in the assessment of disability
• Carry out medical rehabilitation interventions and prescribe treatment as appropriate
• Promote health and well being

To work cohesively with the in patient and community multi-disciplinary team to provide an integrated approach to patient rehabilitation which is goal focused and individualised

Prevent complication of the underlying condition and its treatment

Provide treatment for other comorbidities, liaising with colleagues as appropriate

Provide complex medical reports on patients

Provide neurorehabilitation advice and support to colleagues in the acute setting for patients on in reach case load.

To take the lead for UKROC submissions and communications

Undertake domiciliary services for patient's assessment and treatment as appropriate

Follow up patients in other settings in hospital and community

Develop an outpatient neurorehabilitation service for follow up of inpatients and for on-going management of patients on outreach caseload.
