An amazing opportunity has arisen to work with a dynamic forward thinking, diabetes and endocrinology team at East Sussex NHS Trust.

Our team is expanding and we are looking to recruit a Band 7 Diabetes Specialist Nurse who is dynamic and enthusiastic about enhancing the quality of diabetes care. Who is willing to drive, champion, and defend gold standard care for people with Diabetes conditions.

We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate who wishes to extend their knowledge, skills and expertise in this field and be a part of the innovative services that we deliver. The post-holder will manage own caseload of patients, primarily delivering specialist care to patients with diabetes condition on an outpatient basis alongside supporting the in-patient services. Experience in care of people with diabetes is essential. The post holder should be able to initiate therapies with a Non-Medical prescriber qualification as essential. The role also involves delivering education sessions to staff and patients whilst enhancing own skills with the management of patients with complex Type 2 and Type 1 diabetes. The role requires involvement on Diabetes technology delivering Insulin Pumps and CGMs to name a few. The role will require the successful applicant to become proficient in assessment, counselling and teaching skills. The ability to demonstrate additional learning in diabetes is essential and a commitment to further learning and development is desirable.

Main duties of the job

In conjunction with other members of the Diabetes & Endocrinology Team, to provide autonomous specialist diabetes care to adults and young people who attend the Diabetes Clinics using advanced clinical skills and knowledge of the speciality.

The post-holder will be a source of expertise and operate with a high degree of autonomy whilst working closely and collaboratively with senior medical and nursing colleagues whilst also supporting the junior members of the team. Proven clinical expertise, clinical leadership and management are essential. You must be able to support the implementation of changes in practice and have the ability to work collaboratively at all levels and across disciplines and agencies.

The patient will be at the centre of everything you do whilst demonstrating a supportive, person-centred, and motivational approach with a 'can-do' attitude. You will be working collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary teams dedicated to ensuring high quality care of people with Diabetes conditions in ESHT.
