Job summary

This post is primarily concerned with providing repair, calibration and maintenance to a wide range of medical, diagnostic and therapeutic equipment for use in patient care in East Sussex Healthcare Trust and its customers, to ensure equipment operates effectively and safely with a minimum of downtime.

Salary Band 4 plus Recruitment and Retention Premium (£4,108)

Main duties of the job

The post holder also supports the provision of services to external NHS and Private Healthcare Partners, Clients and Patients. Clinical equipment covered incorporates electrical, electronic, mechanical, computer software and medical gas systems.

Essential

  • Good level of general education including Maths and English
  • Professional Electronics Knowledge to diploma equivalent level, acquired through BTEC, HNC plus short courses or equivalent training and experience

Desirable

  • BEng or HND in Electronics with some Clinical Technology experience

Experience

  • Significant level of extensive practical experience in applying electronic engineering workshop practices and techniques or equivalent of independent practice including preventative maintenance, servicing, inspection, repair, calibration, quality control, safety, acceptance testing and procurement on a wide range of equipment.

Desirable

  • Previous experience of working in the health sector.

Skills

Essential

  • Manual dexterity in the use and manipulation of fine tools for accurate equipment adjustment/assembly
  • Ability to frequently lift medium weights and occasionally heavy weights for short periods (up to 10kgs per weight)
  • Ability to work under pressure and frequently concentrate for long periods with occasional interruptions for emergency repairs
  • Able to work in awkward positions
  • Able to deal with occasional distressing circumstances when working in clinical areas (e.g. when visiting wards, ICU and Theatres fault finding on patient connected equipment)
  • Ability to use specialist diagnostic tools in the repair and maintenance of electronic equipment.
  • Operate a computer with multiple software programs
  • Able to analyse technical problems. Interpret and make appropriate decisions with some supervision when necessary.
  • Able to communicate complex information across professional boundaries (e.g. fault finding in an emergency, to minimise misunderstanding and obtain the required information).
