Job summary

Are you looking for a different and exciting challenge? The East Sussex Community Dental Service is looking for a flexible and enthusiastic Dental Nurse to join their dedicated team.

Our community dental team are based at several sites across East Sussex, St Leonards on Sea, Uckfield, Seaford & Eastbourne.

We are looking for a dental nurse with the ability to travel independently to all sites, sometimes at short notice.

Applicants must be GDC registered and have at least 2 years post qualification experience in special care or general dentistry.

In this exciting and vital role, you will provide dental nurse support to the dental team providing care for patients with additional needs. Experience of working with this client group is desirable but not essential.

You will need to work at different clinics across East Sussex, as required by the service.

Car owner (or access to a car) and current driving licence are essential

Main duties of the job

  • Provide patient with appropriate infection control and health & safety measures, such as protective goggles.
  • Chart and record patients' dental health requirements on patient's dental notes as instructed by clinicians.
  • Assist during treatment by using relevant equipment and techniques to ensure procedures are carried out safely, efficiently and effectively.
  • Provide appropriate operative support including soft tissue retraction and aspiration during dental procedures.
  • Preparation and scanning of intra-oral radiographs taken by clinicians and maintaining accurate record of radiographs.
  • Knowledge of Local Rules in relation to Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposures) Regulations.
  • Mix and accurately prepare clinical materials, using specific guidelines for each individual material, as requested by clinician for use in patient treatment.
  • Care for the patient before and during treatment by providing emotional empathy and appropriate psychological support and at the end of the treatment session considering any patient disability or special need.
  • Provide appropriate emotional support to clinician to help in management of stressful clinical situations.
  • Support and liaise with patient, parent/carer and clinical operator over future treatment plan and appointments.
  • Skills and ability to provide accuracy and speed when carrying out the above duties to provide a safe, efficient and effective service.
