Job summary
This exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced senior midwife to join the maternity team at ESHT as our Consultant Midwife.
Through strong leadership the post holder will lead on initiatives and develop strategies to promote and facilitate childbirth in all clinical settings. As an expert midwife they will have extensive theoretical and practical knowledge and experience of the clinical skills needed within a modern maternity setting. They will be expected to facilitate the advancement of choice and equality across the care continuum through teaching, research and clinical practice and will act as the clinical midwifery expert in all clinical settings.
A key responsibility is to ensure that the families experience is of the highest quality, inspiring public confidence. The post holder will ensure that all people are treated with compassion, dignity and respect placing value on the diversity of the local community and beyond. This will be achieved through high visibility, accessibility and surveillance. The post holder will be expected to work clinically across all sites and will be an expert in promoting choice across all aspects of the pregnancy, birth and postnatal care continuum.
Main duties of the job
ESHT provides maternity services in an obstetric unit at the Conquest Hospital, a midwifery led unit at Eastbourne Hospital as well as community services. We are leading the way in the implementation of the NHS Three-Year Single Delivery Plan (Maternity Transformation) initiatives.
We are looking for a dynamic, experienced midwife with the vision to improve services for women and their families as well as the working conditions for staff. Evidence of effective leadership experience working at management level is expected.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Midwifery and Director of Midwifery to provide visible leadership to the midwifery team. They will drive forward the three-year single delivery plan (Maternity Transformation) agenda, supporting the implementation of all aspects of this programme.

- Registered Midwife
- Teaching accreditation ENB997 or equivalent
- Masters Degree in relevant subject or equivalent level of experience and knowledge
- Evidence of continued professional development-reviewing current practice and research developments within specialist area and application to clinical practice

Desirable
- M Phil/PhD or willingness to undertake
- PMA qualification
- Evidence of publications, conference presentations

- A significantly experienced practitioner with a minimum of 5 years recent post registration experience - minimum 3 years at Band 7 or equivalent
- Able to demonstrate a range of midwifery experience

- Proven track record of project management / leadership
- Proven track record in practice development
- Proven track record of multi-disciplinary work
