Job summary
The Stroke Specialist Nurses at East Sussex Healthcare Trust are committed to raising standards of stroke care throughout the Trust.
The Stroke Specialist Nurses assess patients in the Emergency Department and throughout the hospital who have potentially suffered a stroke.
They will organise the appropriate investigations, initiate treatment and organise the transfer of patients to the Stroke Unit in a timely manner. They also assist in the delivery of TIA services which includes: triaging patients to be seen in the appropriate clinic, assessing patients under the consultant's supervision, assisting with clinics and delivering health education to patients and carers, working both independently and as part of a team. As the Stroke Specialist Nurse you will be expected to support the ward matron to explore and improve clinical practice providing support and education to colleagues and the MDT. You will also be expected to assist with the inputting of data to national and local databases.
Main duties of the job
The post holder should be enthusiastic, motivated and flexible in order to deliver a 24hour, seven day a week service across two sites. There will be opportunities for learning and development in multidisciplinary meetings and in-service training for shared learning. The ideal applicant will have a sound knowledge of TIA, stroke and stroke services. We are looking for a nurse with extensive post registration experience and ideally educated to a degree level.
