Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our pharmacy education and development team. You will utilise your teaching, clinical and leadership skills whilst supporting pharmacists from the very start of their initial education and training journey as the educational programme director (EPD) for our foundation trainee pharmacists, pharmacy undergraduates and early careers pharmacist development.

Working in an acute hospital, you will make key contributions to the delivery of our strategic vision for education and development within the pharmacy department gaining experience across several different dimensions through inter-professional education within the trust and working closely with multi-sector partner organisations within the Integrated Care System to develop the future pharmacist workforce.

Main duties of the job

  • To collaborate with local programme partners and the trust lead Education and development technician continuing to build on the esteemed joint and multisector training provision established at ESHT
  • To be responsible for the management of the trainee pharmacists
  • To lead on local educational governance and quality management activities as the Local Faculty Group Chair for Trainee Pharmacists and Post Registration Pharmacists
  • To oversee the work-placed learning of undergraduate pharmacy placements supported by the Specialist Pharmacist Education and Development, and facilitate the development of experiential learning aligned to the GPhC 2021 standards for initial education and training for pharmacists
  • To participate in the department's continuing education activities including supporting the provision of education programmes for other staff members
  • To supervise the pharmacy delivery of multi-disciplinary training, for example, foundation doctors; nursing staff; AHPs.
  • To support the Training Programme Director (Foundation to advanced) with business level activities
  • To engage with the Lead Divisional Pharmacists in providing clinical pharmacy services

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc (Pharmacy)/BPharm/MPharm
  • Current GPhC Registration as a pharmacist (Vocational Masters degree in Pharmacy (4yrs) and 1 years preregistration training /foundation year and experience)
  • Postgraduate Diploma /MSc in pharmacy with predominantly clinical content or equivalent experience
  • CPD portfolio that demonstrates an ongoing commitment to personal development

Desirable

  • Registration with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society and / or UKCPA
  • Royal Pharmaceutical Society Faculty accreditation/at or working towards completion of advanced practice portfolio
  • Post graduate certificate in education
  • Training in pharmacoeconomics / resource or change management
  • Recognised qualification as education supervisor

Experience

Essential

  • At least 3 years post registration experience within the last 5 years of which 2 years must be within a clinical pharmacy role within a hospital setting
  • At least 12 months experience in a role which includes the provision of education and development
  • Experience in utilising information technology within the workplace including inputting, retrieving information and producing reports
  • Experience with managing trainee learner challenges or dealing with trainees requiring additional support

Desirable

  • Previous experience in mentoring and training pharmacy staff
  • Previous experience in inputting to training programme of pharmacy staff in a clinical setting
  • Previous experience as a Practice, Educational, Designated Supervisor and DPP
  • Experience in recruitment and selection
