Specialist Biomedical Scientist in Biochemistry - Eastbourne DGH

Job summary

As a Specialist Biomedical Scientist, you'll be experienced and operating as a Biomedical Scientist within Biochemistry, in line with ISO 15189 standards and you'll be rotated across the department, providing scientific services to patients and customers to aid pathological diagnosis. You'll deputise for senior team members, assist in workflow management, support with the management of documentation, and general overall performance. You'll also play a vitalrole in the training and development of junior scientific staff.

Main duties of the job

At present the department is in the process of reconfiguration of Clinical Biochemistry and Haematology into a Blood Sciences Department and an exciting programme to re equip the laboratory with the latest analytical and IT equipment is under way as part of the formation of the South 7 Pathology Network. Current biochemistry analysis is carried out using Roche 8000 modular systems and Sebia Capilarys 3 analysers for HbA1c testing at the Eastbourne site. Spectrophotometer and an Osmometer are also used. Cross discipline training would be an advantage.

Flexible working is a requirement for this post and the Department operates a shift system including weekend and Bank holiday rotas in which the successful candidate will be expected to participate. Payment for this will be at Agenda for Change rates

  • State Registration (Health Professionals Council)
  • Post graduate specialist training evidenced by completion of IBMS portfolio or equivalent.

Desirable

  • Familiar with Apex Computer System
  • Familiar with automated analysers in Haematology and Blood Transfusion
