Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated Band 5 Orthotist to join our friendly Orthotics team.Our Orthotic caseload focuses on those who are medically at risk or who have a high podiatric need, consequently our patients tend to be complex with a variety of needs. To enable you to undertake this role you will be encouraged to undertake rotations into specialist clinics to maintain competencies.

You should be up to date with current best practice and demonstrate our ESHT values and behaviours in their day to day role working as part of a team. We value health promotion and patient education We therefore require an Orthotist who has excellent communication and assessment skills.

We encourage team members to take part in various CPD activities including clinical supervision, protected time, in-house training during team and department meetings in addition to external training sessions.

Applications are invited from motivated BSc qualified and HCPC registered Orthotists, preferably affiliated to BAPO, who are keen to advance their clinical, professional and leadership skills.

This post is based on the acute sites setting but you will also work in community settings. Due to the nature of the role it is essential that applicants are able to travel independently across the locality and have access to a suitable vehicle for business purposes.

Main duties of the job

We are committed in providing you with a rotation of experience to build upon your undergraduate theory into practice experience under the supervision of our Senior Orthotist.You will be supported o insure it is a smooth and enjoyable transition into your new role.Our Trust is vertically integrated across Primary and Secondary care and is seeking to recruit a Band 5 Orthotist to our Orthotic Service.

We are looking for an orthotist with a positive mental attitude, whois determined to provide the best evidenced based care and are committed to being part of an Orthotic team, providing an excellent caring service to our patients.As this service is linked to the Podiatry service, we work closely with the University of Brighton, to provide Podiatry student placements and as part of this, they are rotated into the Orthotic service as well. Other AHPs also have close links with this service so interprofessional working is encouraged.The service is committed to bringing out the best of our colleagues and employees and we want everyone who works here to have job satisfaction and feel proud to serve and be part of East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust.You will be working in a number of locations in community and acute setting therefore it is essential that you are able to travel between sites independently and in a timely manner.

  • Bsc (Hons) Prosthetics and Orthotics or equivalent
  • Registered with Health Professions Council

Desirable

  • Membership of British Association of Prosthetists & Orthotists (BAPO)

Experience

  • Post-registration experience, providing a broad range of experience in provision of orthotics for orthopaedic, neurology, paediatrics and diabetes
  • Supervision of student Orthotists, Junior Orthotists and Apprentice Orthotists
  • Ability to evidence a sound understanding of the NHS principles and values
