Job summary

The Eastbourne Maternity Unit is a stand alone birthing centre offering 24 hour care for low risk pregnant people. You would be working as part of the midwifery team assisting with the care of the mother and baby under the supervision and direction of the midwife. You would be expected to actively partake in meeting the needs of parents, thus enhancing the delivery of care in accordance with agreed standards and guidelines.

Main duties of the job

As a MSW you will be expected to actively participate as a member of the maternity team and will be responsible for contributing towards the smooth running of the birthing centre. This role includes working day, night and weekend shifts, so flexibility is essential. Duties will include:

  • To support women throughout their pregnancy, labour and immediate postnatal period under the supervision and instruction of a registered midwife.
  • To assist with the clinical care of women, including taking observations and performing blood tests.
  • To assist in the care of newborns, including undertaking observations, performing tests, and assisting with infant feeding
  • To maintain accurate records
  • To assist in the maintenance of a clean and safe work environment

  • National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 3 in Health and Social Care OR an acceptable level 3 Qualification with equivalent experience.
  • Satisfactory General Education and evidence of additional training relevant to role.
