Job summary
At ESHT we provide a comprehensive electrophysiology service for a patient population of approximately 480,000. There are 8 consultant cardiologists within the department including 2 electrophysiologists and three current locum cardiologist posts. We perform approximately 450 EP procedures per year of which 50% were AF ablation procedures. Approximately 100 AF ablation cases are performed using cryoablation. Both CARTO (with UNIVU) and EnSite Precision mapping systems are used frequently to assist complex procedures. Both endocardial and epicardial VT ablation are performed. In the same period, there were approximately 700 device procedures, including CRT and ICDs. There is a comprehensive PCI service with 800 cases a year and a primary PCI 24/7 service. The Imaging department has a robust and extensive service covering all cardiac imaging modalities including a new cardiac MRI service.
Applications are invited for a F3/CT level doctor interested in a career in cardiology. This post will be based at Eastbourne. Applicants should have some cardiac experience, preferably have the MRCP exam and be on the General Medical Council's Register.
The successful candidate will also receive practical training and experience in all aspects of clinical cardiology. Training in echocardiography and some procedures will be provided according to the experience of the successful candidate and needs of other trainees.
Main duties of the job
- Support Clinical Cardiology Service including acute and general cardiac care.
- Support general medical pts on the cardiac service.
- Where appropriate support cardiac procedures
- To engage in educational activities for Postgraduate training.
- To contribute to departmental teaching activities and training
- Educational models may include problem-based learning, clinical and communication skills tuition, inter-professional education, the use of simulated patients and environments and use of advanced whole-body simulation (via use of Sim Man 3G)
- Setting up skills teaching for IMT and ACCS trainees to align with the curricula for each.
- A contribution to the cardiology middle grade on call rota is expected. This currently attracts a 1B banding payment for a 1:7 non-resident on-call rota.
