Job summary
Our Maternity departments serve the population of East Sussex. We care for around 3000 women & their babies each year, during pregnancy, labour, birth & up until one month after birth.
Our midwives provide midwifery-led care in several settings, including GP surgeries, children's centres & within our hospitals at:
- Conquest Hospital consultant led maternity unit
- Eastbourne midwifery led unit
Our Consultant-led care is provided at Conquest. A home birth service is available dependent upon individual assessment
This post will predominantly be based within the Maternity Day Assessment Unit, Antenatal Clinics & Triage department at Conquest. We also run some of these services at Eastbourne General District Hospital & and cross-site working may be required at times
Maternity Day Assessment Unit is a care centre for pregnant women/people who are undergoing extra monitoring & observations during their pregnancy
Maternity Triage is an urgent care area, whereby pregnant women/people attend 24 hours a day in response to new & urgent concerns, such as bleeding, pain or reduced movements
Antenatal Clinics are led by Consultant Obstetricians & assisted by our Maternity Support workers. On arrival to Antenatal clinic the Maternity Support Worker is responsible for greeting the patient & undertaking initial observations prior to the consultation. They will liaise with the consultant & organise any subsequent bookings that are required & act as a chaperone for any clinical examinations.
Main duties of the job
- To assist the midwives and contribute to the smooth and seamless running of the Maternity Day Assessment Unit and Triage department
- To assist with the clinical care of women, including taking observations and performing blood tests.
- To assist the midwifery and obstetric teams in clinical care as required
- To provide assistance and chaperoning of the Consultant obstetricians during antenatal clinics
- To maintain accurate records using numerous IT systems
- To assist in the maintenance of a clean and safe work environment
- To replenish and maintain stock levels
At times you may be required to work across the postnatal/antenatal ward or on our delivery suite.
