Cheshire & Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust are looking to recruit a Speciality Doctor to support cover a colleague's Maternity leave.

The post Speciality Doctor in Psychiatry of Intellectual Disabilities (Adult Intellectual Disabilities Assessment and Treatment Unit and Community Intellectual Disabilities Team), This post is a fixed term full time Speciality Doctor with no on-call duties (6 months with a potential to be increased upto 12 months)

This post will assist the Greenways Assessment & Treatment Unit, Macclesfield and the east Community Intellectual Disabilities Team based at Macclesfield. It is anticipated that this post will be split between both services

Shortlisting for this vacancy is due commence on 7th January 2026 and the proposed interview date is 29th January 2026

Main duties of the job

The Speciality Doctor, will provide psychiatric input to adults with intellectual disabilities in the 12 bedded Greenways Assessment and Treatment unit (A&T), Macclesfield and East community intellectual disability team

The duties within the A&T unit will include the following:

- To provide medical care on inpatient units including clerking, assessment, monitoring and treatment.

- To conduct physical health checks, conduct mental health assessments and receive requests for specialist advice.

- To contribute to the multi-disciplinary assessment and treatment function of the inpatient teams. This will include giving advice to other team members and the primary care and social services regarding team patients when this is clinically indicated.

- To respond to urgent referrals for admission to inpatient units in liaison with the Consultant Psychiatrist.

- To represent the Consultant Psychiatrist, if necessary, in reporting and attending Managers' Appeals and mental Health Tribunals.

  • MbChB, MBBS or equivalent

  • Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent
