Community Mental Health Clinical Technician

Job summary

The post holder is responsible for monitoring and supporting the physical health needs of individuals engaged with the Early Intervention in Psychosis (EIP) service. They will carry out regular physical health assessments, including monitoring vital signs, weight, blood tests, ECG's and lifestyle factors, in line with national guidelines and service protocols.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, they will ensure that any emerging physical health concerns are identified promptly and appropriate interventions, referrals, or follow-up care are arranged. The role also involves promoting healthy lifestyles, providing education on the impact of medication and lifestyle choices, and supporting service users to access primary care and specialist health services where needed.

Main duties of the job

  • Conduct routine physical health checks, including blood pressure, pulse, weight, BMI, and waist circumference.
  • Arrange and monitor blood tests, ECGs, and other relevant investigations as per clinical guidelines.
  • Record and maintain accurate physical health data in patient records.
  • Support service users with healthy lifestyle interventions, including diet, exercise, and smoking cessation.
  • Provide education on the impact of psychotropic medication on physical health.
  • Encourage adherence to treatment plans and health-promoting behaviours.
  • Work closely with psychiatrists, keyworkers, personal trainer, and primary care providers to coordinate care.
  • Highlight any emerging physical health concerns promptly to senior clinicians.
  • support referrals to specialist services, such as dietitians, physiotherapists, or cardiology, when necessary.
  • Follow up on investigations, treatments, and interventions to ensure continuity of care.
  • Support service users to attend appointments and access appropriate health services.
  • Provide guidance and reassurance to patients about physical health concerns and interventions.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of assessments, interventions, and communications.
  • Ensure compliance with national and local guidelines on physical health monitoring in psychosis.
  • Participate in audits and quality improvement initiatives related to physical health care.
  • Access to transport for work purposes is essential.
