We have an exciting opportunity for a Fitness Instructor to join our service, based at the Old Chapel Gym on the Countess of Chester Health Park site.

This post is a permanent part time post (0.61 WTE 23 hours a week). The work pattern is Monday 9.30-16.30; Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 10.00-16.00.

Main duties of the job

You will work as part of the Fitness and Wellbeing team in managing referrals, providing inductions, developing individualised programs and contributing to the day to day running of the gym. This is a role where no two days are the same as you adapt goals to suit patients' recovery journeys and the dynamic hospital environment.

The team is based at the Old Chapel Gym. Exercise sessions are held within the gym as well as directly on the wards depending on need. All wards are on the Countess of Chester Health Park site at Bowmere Hospital.

A creative approach is required due to the changing needs of our patients such as doing seated exercise, individual or group sessions or using games/sports.

There is possibility of scope for extra hours on a flexible basis to support service need.

About us

We have an established Fitness and Wellbeing service and a large well resourced gym with modern equipment and an established timetable.

You will be a highly motivated and adaptable team player with appropriate experience to at least Level 2 certificate (REPS recognised). It is desirable to have experience working within the NHS, care or with vulnerable people, and to have an awareness of how fitness and wellbeing is impacted by mental illness. You will have excellent communication skills and be able to speak to people from all walks of life, to motivate others around the benefits of physical activity.

You will be supported by experienced senior staff. The Fitness and Wellbeing team works closely with ward clinical staff, including Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Nurses and volunteers. We support Continuous Professional Development and clinical supervision.
