Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Learning Disability Nurse to join the Intensive Support Function (ISF) Team on a 24-month fixed term contract.

The ISF for people with learning disabilities works with people who are at a significant time in their lives when they need additional support due to mental health or behavioural need.

Many of our service users have experienced physical and emotional trauma, they may have personality disorders, mental health needs, as well as a level of learning disability. In addition, they may be accommodated in services who struggle to meet their challenging needs.

The Team's overall aim is to keep people out of hospital. We aim to keep people safe, empower service users to overcome individual challenges and to provide them and their staff team the skills and knowledge needed to overcome the present challenges they face.

The team is highly skilled, passionate, forward thinking and completely person-centred. The successful candidate will work in a supportive and caring environment.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for delivering high-quality clinical care and ensuring all work is needs led, evidence based and in line with current legislation.

You will also support the development of services in line with the workstreams that are the focus for the care group, which includes, mental health, forensic, physical health, neurodevelopmental conditions and cognitive impairment.

They will also be responsible for providing clinical supervision and appraisals of nursing staff within the team and supervise students while on placement with the team.

CWP hosts CANDDID, the Centre for Autism Neurodevelopmental disorders and Intellectual Disabilities, which carries out research, education and training, and all clinicians are encouraged and supported to develop research and QI skills.

  • First level nurse. RNLD/RNMH/ RMN (degree level).
  • Evidence of post registration module training in specialist area to diploma/degree level e.g. physical health in learning disabilities module; epilepsy module; dementia module
  • Evidence of post registration training in e.g. - autism - epilepsy
  • Demonstrate commitment to ongoing learning & development.

Desirable

  • Nurse prescribing qualification.

Knowledge and Expertise

Essential

  • Ability to assess/Plan/Evaluate care to clients and carers.
  • Ability to participate in and develop nursing practice.
  • Support clients in crisis.
  • Excellent record keeping.
  • Ability to chair meetings and lead a team e.g. CPA.
  • Deliver training to other professionals and services.
  • Special interests related to current service developments (e.g. epilepsy; autism etc).
