Job summary

Management and organisation of both direct and indirect labour to ensure the operational effectiveness of both planned maintenance system and repair service for all estate plant, equipment and services.

o Responsible for ensuring that maintenance, including contract work, is carried out to appropriate standards and specifications; including management of maintenance staff.

o Act as Authorised/Responsible Officer in relation to specific maintenance responsibilities where requested e.g. Asbestos Management

o Implement and maintain physical assets register, oversee minor schemes and capital works.

o The postholder will carry Trust communication devices (mobile phones, bleep etc) at all time to facilitate immediate response to emergencies and will participate in an emergency on all rota providing 24 hour cover.

To be a point of contact for works and estates issues for all premises managed by the Trust (to include NHS Property Services and other agencies covered via service level agreements and PFI's) and to deal with all related matters. Liaising with Senior Managers as appropriate.

Development and management of the Maintenance team covering Wirral and West. PPM's, Reactive works and a good understanding of the HTM's along with other relevant legislation.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Qualified to HNC/ONC/BTEC or equivalent in engineering/building/maintenance field
  • Management degree and, or, degree in electrical or mechanical engineering or building technology or equivalent operational knowledge acquired through courses and experience to masters level or equivalent
  • Must hold accreditation to act as an authorised person for controlling work on one or more of the following: Low Voltage electrical systems, ventilation systems, lifts, pressure systems
  • Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD)
  • Must have served a recognised apprenticeship

Desirable

  • Must be member of a professional institute e.g. IHEEM, IET, The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE)
  • Health & Safety qualification e.g. IOSH (Institute of Safety & Health)

Knowledge and Expertise

Essential

  • Must be able to demonstrate a thorough knowledge of both mechanical and electrical maintenance
  • Must be able to demonstrate expertise at managing an in-house Estates workforce as well as external contractors
