This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team of therapists who are at the forefront of developing services for Neurological patients. We provide an excellent service which spans across the acute hospital base, rehabilitation ward and community/out-patient services.
As a Band 7 Physiotherapist, you will be responsible for the triage, assessment and management of your own caseload of complex Neurological patients. You will also be responsible for overseeing the caseload of Band 5 and 6 therapists as well as Therapy Assistants and provide direct supervision/teaching/appraisal of band 6 and band 5 therapists within the team. As a Band 7 you will be expected to positively contribute to service development, seeking opportunities to improve our patient experience.
The Neurotherapy Team consists of a team of 32 staff, including Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Therapy Assistants and a Clerical Officer. We also work closely with our Speech and Language Therapy colleagues. We are a very positive, adaptable and flexible team who has excellent patient care at the centre of our service provision. We have a proactive approach to teaching and learning.
This post is being offered as a fixed term contract for 12 months, but a secondment opportunity will also be considered.
Main duties of the job
You will manage a caseload of complex neurological patients. The post holder will supervise Band 6 and Band 5 Physiotherapists and work with other Band 7 therapists within the team to provide training and support to junior staff. The post holder will work with the other Band 7 Therapists and the Team Leader to develop the Neurotherapy service.
Demonstrate safe, clinical decision-making and expert care, including assessment, treatment and discharge planning for patients with a neurological diagnosis.
Manage and lead highly specialised Physiotherapy intervention to a designated caseload with complex needs, providing clinical leadership and experience to others in a specialist clinical area.
Provide a high quality, effective and advanced Physiotherapy service to inpatients, outpatients and community clients with a neurological diagnosis.
Provide a highly specialist Physiotherapy assessment of patients with highly complex clinical presentation and provide treatment via therapeutic interventions and effective treatment plans.
The team works across 3 sites: a 16 bedded acute stroke unit at the Countess of Chester Hospital, a 16 bedded Stroke Rehab unit at Ellesmere Port Hospital and a community and out-patient base at Ellesmere Port Hospital. All staff are given opportunity to experience working across all 3 areas of our service as this gives an appreciation of the patient journey and helps to create a more cohesive and effective service.
