Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Division of Medicine to work within Rheumatology as a consultant to work alongside our 3 existing consultants, specialist pharmacist and CNS team. It is a full time post based on a 10 PA contract, although less than full-time would be considered.

The Trust is based on two acute sites with Rheumatology outpatient services on each site. The postholder would be encouraged to develop a subspecialty interest as we are keen to develop our services further for our patient population and support would be provided to for this.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will form part of our Rheumatology Consultant team, providing outpatient services across the two Trust sites. Successful candidates will be expected to cover work across both sites providing outpatient services but are also supported with work from home as service needs permit.

Applicants must be on the General Medical Council Specialist Register. In accordance with the regulations, all other categories of doctors must be on the GMC Specialist Register to be considered for a consultant appointment by the Advisory Appointments Committee. Applicants must continue to hold a License to Practice.

The Trust Board and Local Negotiating Committee have agreed that a Core allocation of 1.5 SPAs should be allocated to undertake CPD, appraisal, clinical supervision, audit and clinical governance, mandatory training and the general management of the service. Objectives should be agreed at the Job Plan review meeting with regards to this SPA.

Essential

  • MRCP or equivalent
  • All applicants must have Specialist registration for Rheumatology (or within 6 months of being admitted to the register for trainees, if currently in a training programme in the UK) but consideration will be given to applicants with relevant consultant level experience or trainees in a UK training scheme who are within 6 months of attaining specialist registration.
  • Applicants must be Registered with the General Medical Council and hold a Licence to Practise

Desirable

  • Relevant higher degree (MD or PhD degree)

Experience and Achievements

Essential

  • Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Rheumatology
  • Evidence of ability to take full and independent responsibility for the clinical care of all patients presenting to the Rheumatology Department

Desirable

  • Understanding current issues within the wider NHS
  • Understanding current issues within and the future direction of the specialty
  • Attendance at a recognised management course
  • Shows ability to work with and lead others across professions
  • Experience/willingness to learn Musculoskeletal Ultrasound (added by OS)
