Job summary

Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Charity are the official charity of Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust (CHFT). And our mission is to make a lasting and meaningful difference to patients and families across our communities by funding projects that enhance the experience of all who step through our two hospital doors or who receive care and support from CHFT in the community.

The Fundraising and Engagement Assistant is an integral part of the charity team. The post-holder will contribute toward the successful performance of the charity by engaging with communities and CHFT colleagues to fundraise and support the ambitions of the charity.

This will include assisting the charity team in delivering the planned calendar of events, supporting third party events/fundraisers and internal CHFT fundraising activities.

Main duties of the job

The Fundraising and Events Assistant is an integral part of the Charity team, having knowledge and experience of fundraising and considerable energy and enthusiasm that will inspire patients, visitors and the local community to choose to support Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Charity.

The post is an important link between the charity, CHFT employees and the local community. The post-holder will assist the charity in delivering a seamless and unique donor experience to every individual connecting with the charity, ensuring that respectful, genuine and engaging relationships are formed with a wide range of people with diverse needs and wishes.

The post will assist the charity in delivering target income from community based events and activities, including the support of external and third-party fundraisers. The postholder will maximise the use of CHFT employees and volunteers to raise the profile, funds and awareness of CHFT Charity.

About us

We employ more than 6,500 staffwho deliver compassionate care from our two main hospitals,Calderdale Royal Hospital and Huddersfield Royal Infirmary as well as in community sites, healthcentres and in patients' homes. We also are incredibly proud to have almost 150 volunteers here at CHFT.

We provide a range of services including urgent and emergency care; medical; surgical; maternity; gynaecology; critical care; children's and young people's services; end of life care and outpatient and diagnostic imaging services.

We provide community health services, including sexual health services in Calderdale from Calderdale Royal and local health centres. These include Todmorden Health Centre and Broad Street Plaza.

We continue to modernise and invest in our health services to build on our strong reputation.Foundation trusts are public leaders in improving quality in health services. Supporter engagement and care

Act as the first point of contact for fundraising enquiries to Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Charity and deal with all queries appropriately.

Develop a pipeline and portfolio of internal and external contacts/relationships that will support the growth and ambitions of the charity.

Support and enable fundraisers, supporters and donors to achieve their fundraising ambitions.

Arrange cheque presentations and photo calls in conjunction with donors or community fundraisers and the relevant benefiting departments across the Trust.

Community fundraising and events

Be the first point of contact for all community-based fundraising and event enquiries.

Assist in the delivery of the fundraising events programme, ensuring that proposed activities adhere to Charity Law, fundraising regulations; are properly managed and evaluated, and that events deliver an acceptable return on investment.

Ensure charity led and third-party events are planned for in advance, including the event set up, take down, staffing and delivery of activities on the day.

Recruit, support and retain a range of volunteers and volunteer fundraising groups, encouraging volunteer-led fundraising activities and support for events.

Travel to and represent the charity at external events, to support community fundraisers or give talks/presentations to raise the profile of the charity and attract new supporters.

Where necessary, ensure the safe collection, transportation and depositing of donations made on or off site in accordance with standard procedures.

Communication and engagement

Seek and maximise opportunities to engage with the community across Calderdale and Huddersfield about to the charity, key campaigns and successes.

Work collaboratively with the Charity Marketing and Communications Assistant to provide rich and meaningful day-to-day content that will drive charity donations and increase awareness and involvement.

Promoting staff advocacy and engagement

Deliver presentations at staff events to raise awareness, understanding and support of the charity.

Recruit, support and retain CHFT Charity Champions to maximise engagement and support for CHFT Charity across the Trust.

Act as a charity ambassador across the Trust to raise awareness of the charity brand, encourage staff advocacy and support, and drive cultural change.

Provide training to colleagues at all levels on the work of the charity and the legal aspects of fundraising.

Finance

Ensure the Charity is adhering to finance policies, procedures and processes, and implement any changes where appropriate.

Administration

Maintain accurate records of all fundraising and events activity relating to the charity and ensure records are up to date.

Provide support for the Volunteer Services function in maintaining clear records of volunteers, volunteer activity and associated recruitment processes.

Manage the administration of the Charity Steering Group.

Assist in the on-going performance review of the charity, ensuring the charity is operating effectively, efficiently and complainant with legislation and law.

Research and development

Keep abreast of charity and fundraising law and developments, undertaking training and ensuring compliance with the Charities Act and the Institute of Fundraisings Code of Practice.

Carry out research, analysis and evaluation to inform future fundraising, communications and marketing strategies, keeping abreast of new trends and what other local charities are doing.

Actively participate in training and development to further enhance your role and keep abreast of new fundraising, communications and marketing techniques.

Other duties

Contribute to team meetings and share ideas/learning to drive service performance and improvement.

Be aware and ensure compliance of relevant charity legislation, policies and procedures, Fundraising Regulators Codes of Practice and the latest GDPR regulations.
