Locum Consultant in Cardiology – Interventional (PCI)

Job summary

This is a full-time fixed-term post for a Locum Consultant Cardiologist with specialist interest in Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) and is designed to keep up with the increasing demands on our local service due to a gap in the current workforce. Applicants will be required to have a wide range of experience in general cardiology and will join 11 full time and one part-time cardiology consultants in the Trust.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected to work with colleagues at both sites as required to support the service. The post holder will contribute to the current 1:9 Consultant of the week model for delivering cardiology inpatient care at CRH. There will also be a commitment to a 1:9 cardiology on call service/ weekend rota across the Trust. There is no commitment to general medicine on call.

This is a Full-Time post providing 10 Programmed Activities (PAs), but applicants wishing to work part-time are also encouraged to apply and job plans will be adjusted accordingly, and by negotiation with appointees.

Qualifications

Essential

  • MRCP or equivalent
  • Specialist registration for Cardiology is preferred (or within 6 months of being admitted to the register for trainees, if currently in a training programme in the UK) but consideration will be given to applicants with relevant consultant level experience or trainees in a UK training scheme who are within 6 months of attaining specialist registration.
  • Applicants must be Registered with the General Medical Council and hold a Licence to Practise

Desirable

  • Relevant higher degree (MD or PhD degree)

Experience and Achievements

Essential

  • Must be able to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Cardiology

Desirable

  • Also, should have significant minor Cardiology procedures experience and any other post graduate qualifications that can advance the department needs would be preferable
  • Understanding current issues within the wider NHS
