Job summary

We invite dynamic and enthusiastic applicants to join us at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust as Static Band 5 Outpatient physiotherapists.

Our outpatient physiotherapy team see patients referred from services across the Calderdale and Huddersfield health economy, with our services offered on a number of sites. In Calderdale we offer the full MSK pathway, including FCP, out-patient physiotherapy and the MSK service who work closely with orthopaedic services

We are committed to supporting our static band 5 physiotherapists to develop their MSK skills with protected time and support from our senior clinicians.

The post is aimed at existing band 5 physiotherapists who have NHS experience .

Main duties of the job

  • To manage own caseload in these settings as an autonomous practitioner with supervision as required and contribute to the work of the
  • To work autonomously within Trust policies and professional practice, maintaining accurate and comprehensive up to date

  • The post-holder will rotate around locations within the Calderdale and Huddersfield health economy, working in lively, friendly hubs where you will have support on an informal basis and through formal supervision and annual appraisal.
  • In addition to mandatory training you will have opportunities to participate in relevant in-service training and other activities as part of continual professional development.

  • To work within the service, applying effective clinical interventions within the specialty in line with current evidence
  • To manage autonomously, a clinical workload of patients/clients, assessing and treating patients and maintaining clinical records, referring queries to senior
  • To use shared-decision making to support patients to set their own goals and be confident in their approach to self-management.
  • To have physiotherapy assessment and treatment skills in the areas listed but not limited to:
    • Physical rehabilitation through manual therapy
    • Physical rehabilitation through exercise and function
    • Physical rehabilitation through pain relief: could include acupuncture, electrotherapy etc.
    • An awareness of bio-psychosocial assessment of patients and carers
    • Cognitive and perceptual understanding of condition/person
    • Falls assessment
    • Use of a variety of appropriate outcome measures
  • To communicate effectively using non-verbal, verbal, written and electronic
  • To liaise and develop rapport with patients/clients, carers, members of the MDT, where appropriate, and outside agencies under guidance of a senior
  • To act, within the service, as a resource and provide advice for other professionals and colleagues within the MDT about the assessment, treatment, management and care of patients/clients with support from senior
  • To work alongside other professionals to ensure effective care pathways

  • To give advice, teaching and training to patients/clients, carers, volunteers and other health, educational and social care professionals, as appropriate to ensure provision of good patient
  • With experience may share responsibility for the clinical education of undergraduate Physiotherapists and on completion of the appropriate clinical educator training may take responsibility for students under the guidance of a senior
  • To support senior therapists with the education of students from other professional groups e.g. Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists as required.
