Job summary

As a staff nurse at CHFT you will provide a high standard of individualised nursing care in accordance with agreed policies; through assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence based individualised plan of care.

You will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of care deliver and you will be expected to develop personally and professionally, into undertaking all aspects of the role of a band 5 nurse.

To work as part of a multidisciplinary team using resources efficiently. To deliver quality care to patients and to supervise the working of junior staff during the span of duty.

Main duties of the job

Ward 10 is the general elective surgical ward for the Calderdale and Huddersfield trust.

We are a 20 bedded ward, who care for a range of surgical specialities, including; Colorectal, Upper GI, Bariatric, Breasts and Urology, as well as caring for general surgical patients. We are a 24/7 service which offers a variety of shift patterns.

We are looking for a high motivated and enthusiastic staff nurse to join our friendly and proactive nursing team. We are a high working department with a strong sense of team work, care and compassion.

You must be able to work as part of team and you will need to posses excellent communication skills. You will be given the chance to develop and enhance you surgical skills through our multiple development opportunities.

To contribute to a culture that recognises and work in partnership with patients and their families, involving them in all aspects of care. Receive patients and their relatives in a calm, courteous and reassuring manner, while participate in providing support and information.

To provide early intervention to ensure the safe discharge of patients, working in collaboration with the surgical team and community services.

Give and receive regular reports of the progress of patients, immediately acting on any changes in the patients condition and reporting to the relevant health care professional.

Maintain accurate records of observation, treatment and patient care.

Participate in the checking and administration of prescribed drugs (including controlled drugs) and other substances in accordance with trust policies.

To have a willingness to take on enhanced/extended roles i.e care of central lines and other clinical roles linked to the ward.

To act as an advocate for the patient and the family, including promoting and protecting their interest, rights, equality, inclusion and privacy.

Always uphold confidentially in all situations according to the trust policy.

To act as a link nurse within a defined speciality/interest area.
