Job summary

We are looking to appoint an innovative and high performing Locum Consultant Ophthalmologist specialising in Glaucoma, providing all medical and surgical management within this sub-specialty.

An excellent opportunity to join a dynamic and forward thinking team led by a substantive Glaucoma Consultant specialist, delivering a multidisciplinary approach providing; Consultant complex and standard clinics, Optometry new patient screening clinics and Orthoptist and Nurse Practitioner monitoring clinics. The sub-specialty has well established virtual clinics and community Optometry schemes including Glaucoma referral repeated measures and ocular hypertension monitoring.

The department has recently commenced Micropulse laser in an out-patient setting as an alternative surgical intervention and in the process of commencing MIGS to provide a comprehensive adult glaucoma service.

Full time or part time roles considered.

Main duties of the job

To provide Glaucoma complex out-patient clinics along with specialist surgical management (elective and acute) including Micropulse laser treatment (training provided).

To clinically support and educate a multi-disciplinary team of trainees, Trust doctors, Optometrists, Orthoptists and Nurse Practitioners to provide a new patient screening and follow-up patient monitoring glaucoma service.

The wider department comprises 16 Consultants, 6 Specialty and Trust Grade Doctors, 4 Specialty trainees, 4 Nurse Practitioners, 10 Orthoptists, 5 Optometrists and a substantial team of Ophthalmic Nurses, technicians and healthcare assistants. The department also benefits from an ECLO and a dedicated Glaucoma Pathway Failsafe Co-ordinator.

About us

CHFT has 2 main sites, Ophthalmology being based in Acre Mills Out-patients (ACM), Huddersfield and Calderdale Royal Hospital (CRH), Halifax.

Community clinic sites include Westwood Park (Bradford) and Todmorden (Halifax) that provide selected sub-specialties.

The majority of Glaucoma complex clinics are based at ACM or CRH.

The Trust is currently one of the most digitised NHS Trusts in the country having moved to Cerner Millennium Electronic Patient Records (EPR) in 2017. We also utilise all Medisoft modules. This makes us currently one of the most paper-light and digitised Ophthalmology Departments in the country, and our planned/on-going work will make us a national leader in this area.

Full time and part time roles considered.
