Job summary

  1. Supervised in house training all duties associated with the provision of a modern interventional radiology(IR) / Cardiology service, providing a high standard of care at all times.

  2. This post will be shared with the main xray department 50/50 ( half main Department and half Interventional radiology )

  3. Complete competencies and assignments with in house training set out by Team Lead and Service Lead in Intervention and Main Department

  4. Supervision of student radiographers

  5. Cross site working across CHFT

  6. Flexible availability in accordance to the needs of the service

  7. Bulid working relationship with Multi Disciplinary Teams with the Interventional Radiology team and wider Trust

Main duties of the job

Main Duties

  1. Assist and perform a wide variety of specialised interventional radiology- cardiac procedures and examinations as service needs required by radiology.

  2. Supervised out of hours duties as necessary.

  3. Observe and assist staff to deal with high pressure demands from service users, ensuring patient care is not compromised.

  4. Supervised training as part of a team in interventional radiology/cardiology within the Trust, but also autonomously, prioritising and managing own workload.

Band 5 Training Post in Interventional Radiography/Plain Film

Are you looking for a new challenge, to progress your career in a rewarding multidisciplinary setting. An opportunity has arisen for a band 5 training post in our Vascular and Cardiac Intervention departments. You will be given the opportunity to rotate between the Cardiac Angiographic lab at Calderdale Royal Infirmary and the Vascular Interventional lab at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. This will develop your skill set and you will be part of a team delivering specialist care in these departments.

Some previous experience in these areas is desirable but is not essential as training will be given. We will actively support the development of Radiographers who wish to join our team but do not yet have the necessary skills.

The post holder will be expected to work flexibly and cross site, to provide these services on late rota and Bank Holidays.

It is essential that you have a degree or equivalent qualification in Diagnostic Radiography and be registered with the HCPC.

Clinical

All duties and responsibilities to be supervised by Band 6 IR Team Radiographers , Team/Service Lead Plain film

  • Provide a full range of clinical examinations performed within the departments, ensuring high standards of clinical practice are maintained and to be responsible for the quality of own work , Band 5 trainees and Student Radiographers under supervision where applicable.

  • Plan and undertake all duties required in the provision of the radiographic service within Interventional Radiology working environment.

  • Ensure that high quality images are produced on all ranges of patients, adapting techniques to accommodate the clinical, physical and mental needs of the patient and ensuring patient care at all times.

  • Registered with the Healthcare Professionals Council. Works within the HCPC professional code of conduct and standards of proficiency. Works within the policies, procedures and guidelines set by the Trust. Adheres to departmental protocols.

  • Practice in accordance with the current legislation governing the use of ionising radiation for medical and other purposes. Implementing Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposures) Regulations 2017 (IR {ME} R).

  • Adhere to departmental safety guidelines ensuring patient and staff safety at all times. Perform pre examination patient checks. For example completing WHO checklists

  • Able to diffuse potentially aggressive situations involving patients, relatives or carers effectively and to be aware of the sites of alarms and to utilise personal safety alarms if necessary.

  • Able to deal with verbal complaints efficiently and effectively completing all documentation. Seek guidance from senior staff

  • Communicate effectively with patients in all age ranges and abilities to gain a positive identification as per IR (ME) R 2017 and their co-operation in order to obtain high quality images.

  • Communicate effectively with all grades of staff and clinicians, both within and out with the department, to ensure an efficient service and compliance with IR (ME) R 2017 Regulations.

  • Work with the modality IR Team /Team/Service Lead to Manage/co-ordinate the day to day workload of the modality area/plain film

  • Prioritise workflow to meet the needs of the patient; liaising effectively with other members of the team, wards, departments and clinical colleagues across the Trust.

  • Be responsible for the accurate completion of all records, including the appropriate section of all care pathways in which they are involved.

  • Utilise clinical skills to recognise and act upon emergency situations, i.e., cardiac arrest, respiratory arrest, adverse reactions to contrast agents.

  • To participate in the cardiac intervention out of hours service and/or extended hours service within specialist area/ plain film

  • Utilise IT skills to input data onto the Interventional radiology stock management system, the Radiology Information System, including patient and examination details, ensuring patient confidentiality. Utilise IT skills in the use of the Electronic Patient Record and the Hospital PACS System.

  • To undertake any other duties as requested by senior staff.

Professional Duties

  • Effective cleaning and disinfection of radiographic equipment and ancillary equipment in line with the Trusts Infection Control Policy and the IR(ME)R 2017 Regulations (prior to repair/services) and that all documentation is completed.

  • Work as part of a team but also autonomously, prioritising and managing own workload.

  • To undertake and record a range of relevant Continuous Professional Development (CPD).

  • To report all incidents, clinical/non clinical via the standard reporting mechanism.

(Escalate, where appropriate, to Service Leads with responsibility for Risk Management).

  • Maintain awareness of current trends in all professional matters in the field of practice.

  • Supervise, support and teach Student Radiographers on clinical placement

  • Successful completion of in house training competencies in the selected speciality

  • Participate in the workplace induction process, ensuring all equipment training documentation is completed as required by IRR17

  • Attend all Mandatory Training days as stated by the Trust.
