Post Description

  • To support staff in the delivery of best practice techniques, regarding moving and handling
  • To promote a safety culture to enhance staff health and patient safety
  • To train staff in correct techniques for moving and handling

Main duties of the job

Main Tasks

2.2 To work in partnership with the managers & Key Workers

2.3 To liaise with the appropriate personnel regarding the moving and handling training requirements of the trust and ensure that training meets the statutory requirements and organisational needs.

2.4 To communicate with managers regarding training needs of employees

2.5 To plan and organise appropriate training sessions to meet the Trusts requirements

2.6 To establish and maintain a directory of manual handling equipment within the training are.

2.7 To assist and participate with equipment audits.

3.4 To implement the delivery of effective moving and handling training programmes for all staff groups within the trust, ensuring best practice is transferred to the workplace.

3.5 To assess compliance and competencies through audit to ensure that moving and handling practices comply with legislative and trust policy requirements.

  1. Professional Duties

4.1 To investigate and report on adverse manual handling incidents and moving and handling complaints.

4.2 To undertake moving and handling Assessments as and when required

4.3 To contribute to the development of policies to support moving and handling procedures within the trust, including formulating local safe systems of work

4.5 To produce and implement a plan to support the trusts strategy for managing moving and handling training programme.

4.6 To establish guidelines for foreseeable problems e.g., equipment requirements, bariatric patients etc and ensure appropriate training has been delivered.

4.7 To initiate audit where there is cause for concern with regards to moving and handling procedures and produce reports for managers and health and safety committee where action is necessary.

4.8 To provide the evidence-based research when required to back up audit and advice.

7.1 Participate in regular supervision

7.2 Attend all mandatory training

7.3 Participate annually identifying, developing and agreeing your own development plan with your line manager using the trust Appraisal process.

7.4 Comply with all trust policies, procedures and protocols.

Carry out duties with due regard to the trusts equal opportunity policy.

Seek advice and support from line manager whenever necessary.

7.5 Maintain professional conduct always including appearance at all times.

7.6 Ensure maintenance of professional registration

All staff workers can access relevant training sessions for their role.

  1. Probationary Period

All staff new to the Trust are required to undergo a 6-month probationary period (except medical staff and staff on temporary or fixed term contracts for 6 months or less who are subject to separate arrangements).

All existing Trust staff transferring internally to a new post within the Trust are required to undergo a modified probationary period of 3 months.
