Job summary

Due to a strengthened leadership structure there will be an additional matron post for community services coming out to advert in due course

We are seeking to appoint an exceptional inpatient Matron to lead the nursing team within the Children and Young People's Directorate team at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust.

We welcome a creative, flexible individual who has excellent leadership skills and a strong background of managing teams. The successful applicant will support the clinical managers with the management of paediatric inpatients, the paediatric assessment unit and oversee the Matron responsibilities for the neonatal intensive care unit.

The post holder will join a CHKS accredited paediatric service which is currently rated 'Good' by the CQC. We are continuing our improvement journey towards outstanding.

Main duties of the job

On the Calderdale site, we have a large ward comprising of a paediatric assessment unit, high dependency care, inpatient beds for medical inpatients, planned surgery, and care of young people with mental health needs. On the Huddersfield Site, we have an inpatient unit which cares for children requiring acute surgery and a clinical decisions unit, supported by advanced paediatric nurse practitioners. We have a Level 2, Neonatal unit.

You will need to possess excellent communication skills, agility, tenacity, and a compassionate approach to children and their families, ensuring they feel safe and listened to and provided with opportunities to help co-design services.

Your role will be to provide effective, visible, and accessible leadership, always ensuring a patient-centered approach. You will monitor and maintain professional nursing standards to ensure the care environment is clean, safe and protects privacy and dignity. You will work with your team to ensure that robust systems of governance and performance management are in place.

The successful candidate will need to work cohesively with clinical managers, the Lead Nurse for Children, the General Manager, Clinical Director, the Directorate and Divisional team, and Trust matrons.
