Job summary

We are advertising a number of posts as Trust Doctors at the registrar (ST3+) level at Calderdale & Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust.

The posts are intended to provide additional experience in various general surgical specialties to enable progression into a formal NTN for general surgical training.

Although not a recognised training post, there are considerable training and educational opportunities for the successful candidates. There is a comprehensive induction course and regular weekly teaching with the intention that the service commitment, supervision level and educational opportunities will be equivalent to that of our existing trainees.

This is a Full-Time post providing with basic hours of 40 hours per week, but applicants wishing to work part-time are also encouraged to apply and rotas will be adjusted accordingly, and by negotiation with appointees.

Main duties of the job

Specialty registrars will be expected to participate in ward rounds, clinics and operating theatres. The postholder accepts that s/he will also perform duties in on the emergency take and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation where practicable with senior colleagues.

The department is part of a busy district general hospital and performs around 190 emergency laparotomies, 150 elective colorectal resections, over 100 bariatric operations and over 500 laparoscopic cholecystectomies per year and has a busy and active elective breast surgical practice.
