Job summary
The post-holder will be expected to be independent in oral surgery and demonstrate a commitment to teaching. The appointee will join the Dental Specialties Team as a Consultant Oral Surgeon, and will be responsible for the care of the oral surgery patients together with the existing Specialty Oral Surgeon. The successful candidate will be required to undertake managerial duties associated with the care of their patients and the running of the department and will be expected to participate in all facets of departmental activity. Managerial and high level governance experience is therefore a requirement for this role.
The post holder will build and utilise governance links beyond the organisation, for example West Yorkshire Association of Acute Trusts (WYAAT) Network, Bradford Teaching Foundation Trust Hospital and Oral Surgery at Leeds Dental Hospital, to ensure high quality care is provided to patients. The appointed post holder will lead, deliver and support the provision of oral surgery for Kirklees and Calder Region, making links with primary care and will strive to further develop the existing model of collaborative and joined up working across the West Yorkshire Dental community
Main duties of the job
This appointee will continue to develop the service within the Department and manage the capacity of referrals into the Trust from an increasing geographical area. It is expected that the post-holder will be able to deliver on all degrees of disease managementas well as provide support, training and supervision for junior medical staff (inc. non-training grades), allied health professionals and Dental Nurses
The appointee will work with colleagues within the CHFT Oral Surgery Department, Bradford Teaching Hospital Maxillofacial Surgeons, Calderdale and Huddersfield Clinical Commissioning Group and Local Primary Care Dental Groups to deliver a comprehensive oral surgery service to the population served by Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Trust and, in particular, to patients referred to the Consultant.
This requires a flexible attitude to working practices, managing patients in partnership with other consultant colleagues and professional staff and making the best possible use of resources put at the disposal of the Department. This is likely to require negotiated changes of duties and time-tabled sessions from time to time. Cross-site working is rarely required for this role but may be necessary especially when dealing with the paediatric cohort.
