Job summary
The Consultant will join an established team of enthusiastic clinicians who bring abroad range of skills in the CAMHS LD service. The team works with children, young people, and their families to develop an understanding of each childs mental health needs and experience.
The CAMHS LD team is able to recommend psychological support, medication, behaviour support and signposting to other support services. As well as direct clinical work, the CAMHS LD service offers:
- Consultation, training and support to families, education services, childrens social care and other agencies to enhance their skills and competencies to meet the needs of young people with mental health conditions and learning disabilities.
- Support during transition to adult mental health services as appropriate.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will join a very supportive group of CAMHs Consultants who are passionate about supporting children and young people across Berkshire when they present a range of mental health needs: there are monthly CAMHS consultant meetings, protected time for Reflective Practice and Complex Case Discussions, CAMHS PDP groups, access to a CAMHS Complex Case Panel to explore resources available locally as well as nationally when needed and a CAMHs Research network.
The CAMH Service runs an active CAMHS Academic program, as well as a whole Trust Academic programs, a consultants Balint Group and a forums for NHS appraisers. The Trust has strong links for Medical Educators and offers placements and tutorials to medical students, as well as training resident doctors in Specialty Training as well as GP training schemes across Thames Valley, as well as London.
Research with Reading University and national research studies is well supported and several CAMHS consultants have recently published articles following their involvement in national research projects.
About us
The Berkshire CAMHs Learning Disability Service was launched in January 2024 to meet the complex needs of children and young people with complex mental health presentations in the context of moderate to severe disability (LD).
Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (BHFT) was formed in April 2001 and successfully became licensed as a Foundation Trust in May 2007. In April 2011 the community services which were previously the provider arms of NHS Berkshire East and NHS Berkshire West PCTs merged with the Trust.
The main centres of population are Reading in the West of the County and Slough in the East. Within Berkshire there are also major populations at Newbury, Wokingham in the West and Bracknell, Maidenhead, Windsor and Ascot in the East, as well and many significant urban developments in smaller towns forming essentially a single conurbation along the M4 Corridor.
