Mental Health Inpatient Band 4 Tobacco Dependence Advisor - Prospect Park Hospital, Reading, RG30 4EJ

A Monday-Friday 8am-4pm or 9-5 pm working pattern is just one of the attractions this opportunity provides. Smoking is the largest avoidable cause of death and disability in the UK. Treating tobacco dependence is a priority for clinicians and the NHS. Berkshire Health Care has been a smoke free trust since 2015. In order for us to continue to improve our support to patients who smoke we require a Tobacco Dependence Advisor.

The Tobacco Dependence Advisor is an exciting role based at Prospect Park Hospital. You must have the motivation and desire to work with a complex and often vulnerable group of patients to achieve the best possible outcomes, improve the quality of care and contribute to the overarching agenda of tackling avoidable illness from Tobacco Dependence and reducing health inequalities.

Main duties of the job

  • Be responsible (under supervision) for the delivery of tobacco harm reduction/ stop smoking support to patients who are in our care at Prospect Park

  • Carry out Carbon Monoxide Monitoring for all patients who are attempting to quit smoking or switching to vapes

  • Act as the Hospital Smoke Free Advisor promoting the Trusts smoke free policy

  • To support induction of new staff to our Smoke free Policy and Tobacco Dependence support and help increase confidence in Harm reduction/ Quit conversations.

  • Work Collaboratively with our community colleagues and partner agencies to promote recovery from admission through to discharge support

  • Be a positive role model for ward champions and clinical staff and ensure staff are also supported if they require Tobacco Dependence Advice or support

  • Support in delivering training to ensure healthy smoke free conversations are an integral part of patient care.
