Are you an experienced Speech and Language Therapist looking for the next step in your career? Are you passionate about supporting adults with communication issues within a community setting?

Here in the WAM (Windsor, Ascot, Maidenhead) OPMH Community Service we are looking for an experienced band 7 OR a developmental band 6 Speech & Language Therapist to join our team on a part time basis.

You will be working with older adults presenting with communication difficulties and dysphagia, this includes supporting patients with both dementia and functional mental health difficulties.You will need to provide specialist clinical advice and support around communication support, differential diagnosis assessment & dysphagia and develop related treatment plans for our patients.

We are a well-established multidisciplinary, integrated Older Adult Community Mental Health team and intervention in your role will be in conjunction with other Care pathways and treatment given.

We are big on staff development and can offer both internal and external training and development opportunities within this role, plus mentoring and clinical supervision with other senior OPMH SLTs. For the band 6 developmental role we will assist you with your competencies to band 7.

The service operates 09:00 - 17:00 Monday to Friday and we offer a hybrid working model.

Main duties of the job

  • Providing assessment, advice and support to patients with communication difficulties that are currently open to the service (one to one and in groups). Developing, monitoring and reviewing related treatment plans
  • Working closely with and supporting colleagues within the MDT, providing specialist advice and support around communication and/or swallowing issue
  • To provide appropriate specialist intervention, reviewing and patients as appropriate and evaluating the treatment outcomes for each individual
  • To provide mentoring, advice and support to more junior Speech and Language Therapists, assistants and volunteers
  • To contribute to clinical teams both multi disciplinary and uni disciplinary by discussing own and others input around clients needs ensuring a well co-ordinated care plan

Essential

  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree
  • Qualification or equivalent Licence to Practice
  • Registered Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapist

Training

Essential

  • Evidence of successful post-graduate study in relevant areas through CPD portfolio
  • MSc or at least 3 years' experience in co-working with expert practitioners and undertaking specialist formal training

Previous Experience

Essential

  • Substantial post-graduate experience
  • Experience in developing and delivering training packages to other disciplines, carers and service users
  • Experience in inter-agency working
  • Experience in changing own practice

Desirable

  • Relevant specialist OPMH experience post qualification

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal skills - including observation, listening and empathy skills
  • Good negotiation and problem solving skills
