Specialist Physiotherapist (based in West Berks Community Inpatients)

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a full time Physiotherapy Team lead within the Inpatient Unit at West Berkshire Community Hospital. Our service aims to maximize the rehabilitation of adults by promoting independence and self-care in line with the home first model.

The post involves working alongside the Therapy Lead for Community Inpatients and the Inpatient Services Manager and is a mix of both a clinical case load and the management of the physiotherapy team within the unit.

The team are focused and driven in providing research- based practice and the development of new initiatives under the Quality Improvement program and the successful applicant will help deliver staff led initiatives to support this.

The post involves leading on safe patient assessment, prescription of care & safe discharge of our patients, working alongside key stakeholders.

working pattern + Service operating hours

We operate a 5-day service Monday to Saturday between the hours of 08:00 - 17:00.

Main duties of the job

  • To work alongside the Physiotherapy team in the management of a highly complex caseload of patients, working closely with the Multi-Disciplinary Team in the delivery of rehabilitation and discharge planning to ensure a smooth transition for our patients from hospital to the community.
  • To have responsibility for the day-to-day line management of Physiotherapy staff, including support workers and students.
  • To provide highly skilled specialist assessments. To plan, implement and evaluate evidence-based treatments according to individual need. Promoting independence and self-care of long-term conditions.
  • To provide specialist Physiotherapy advice to colleagues, working both within the area of expertise and other clinical areas.
  • To investigate complaints and incidents, including SIRI's, safeguarding and clinical issues
  • To foster good working relationships within the wider team, including other services such as the local authority/social care/intermediate care.
  • To have responsibility for the clinical and professional development of staff within the team.
  • To identify service need and contribute effectively to service development.
