Job summary

We are looking to fill an Assistant Psychologist post within Berkshire Children, Families and All Age Services (CFAA).

The post will be based within the CFAA Health Hub in Bracknell, which is responsible for all new referrals into CFAA. This includes triaging and assessing emotional wellbeing and signposting to the service that will best meet the needs of the child or young person. The post will also support the screening of referrals for autism and ADHD assessment.

The Assistant Psychologist will receive fortnightly supervision on a group basis from a Clinical Psychologist (alongside several other Assistant Psychologists already in post).

Main duties of the job

  • Triaging new referrals to the Health Hub, particularly those suggesting the presence of possible autism and/or ADHD
  • Ensuring that screening questionnaires are sent out and returned
  • Scoring and interpreting screening questionnaires to help decide whether or not to transfer the referral to the Autism and/or ADHD Team for further assessment
  • Liaison with parents/school/other professionals where needed

Education/Qualifications/Training

Essential

  • An upper second class honours degree or higher in psychology.
  • Entitlement to graduate membership of the British Psychological Society

Continuous Professional Development

Essential

  • Experience of working with children and / or young people.

Knowledge and skills

Essential

  • High level communication skills (written and verbal) including an ability to communicate and work in settings in which the atmosphere may be highly emotive.
  • Ability to communicate sensitive information to children, families, carers and colleagues
  • An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental health problems or other disabilities.
  • An ability to apply existing psychological knowledge to a mental health context
  • An understanding of psychology applied to health care
  • High standard of report writing.
