Job summary

This role is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated dietitian with an interest in gastroenterology and surgery, excellent communication skills and a passion for patient centered care.

As the successful candidate, you will be based at the Royal Berkshire Hospital providing a specialist dietetic input into the gastroenterology service, working closely with your MDT colleagues including consultants and specialist nurses.

This role will provide you with excellent and supported professional and personal development. As part of the team you will have opportunities to be involved with the training of dietetic students, other dietitians and healthcare professions. There are also opportunities to get involved with audit, research and service development

You would be joining a team of over 20 committed and welcoming dietitians, who work in a range of specialist areas at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. Reading is the largest town in the UK with great shopping, evening night life, restaurants and London is less than half an hour by train.

We are a forward thinking department that has a strong focus on a patient centered service. We encourage service development and have an established quality improvement programme driving the service forward.

Part time or full time (37.5 hours) hours are available for this role.

The role can accommodate a degree of flexible working and we would consider a band 5 applicant who would like to have an accelerated progression to band 6.

Main duties of the job

You will be based at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading working closely with the gastroenterology consultants and specialist nurses to assess and advice patients. Our service uses a range of consultation settings to support our patients at all stages along their treatment pathway. Some of the areas of work include:

  • Being part of the MDT in assessing nutritional status
  • Advising and supporting patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Supporting the training of dietetic students
  • Supporting junior staff with specialist knowledge
  • Implementing Quality Improvement programme to lead service development

The "must haves" for this role:

  • HCPC registered dietitian
  • Experience of working in the area of gastroenterology or surgery
  • Passion for dietetics and a patient centred focus
