Due to internal promotion we are looking for a new Clinical / Counselling Psychologist (band 7 or band 8a) to join our team at Erlegh House in Reading.

This is a rare opportunity to join a well-established psychology service working closely with other multi-disciplinary professionals to offer high-quality care to adults with learning disabilities in both community and inpatient unit.

We are an innovative team, passionate about improving the lives of people with learning disabilities looking for someone who shares these values. We work with a variety of clients which will ensure you continue to develop your therapeutic skills but also means we require someone who is a good communicator and creative in finding ways to engage with people.

As service we are big on staff development and "grow your own" and can offer both internal and external training and development opportunities. You will also be supported to develop your clinical leadership and change management skills, while continuing to develop your supervision, consultation, training and governance skills to enhance patient and staff well-being.

The service operates 9-5 Monday to Friday, and we can offer flexibility within this. We are open to both full and part time applicants.

Main duties of the job

• To provide highly specialist and expert psychological assessments of clients referred to the Learning Disabilities Psychology Service, based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of highly complex data from a variety of sources.
• To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals, carers, families and groups, within and across teams employed individually and in synthesis.
• To formulate plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a client's mental health problems based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the client's problems, and employing expert methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of care settings.
• To make highly skilled evaluations and decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.
