Job summary

Band 7 newly-qualified developmental roles and band 6 third-year Counselling Psychology Trainee roles will be considered.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Clinical/Counselling Psychologists to be part of the growing Mental Health Inpatients Psychology Team at Prospect Park Hospital.

Currently there are twelve Psychologists working across the hospital. Full time and part time 8a or Band 7 developmental Clinical/Counselling Psychologists posts are available across the four adult acute wards and the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).

For those post holders in Band 7 developmental posts, the post holder will be able to progress from Band 7 to 8a once they demonstrate that they meet the competencies for Band 8a level.

Job satisfaction can come from a number of different areas in this diverse role. Under supervision of a Principle or Consultant Clinical Psychologist you will take on a clinical caseload with adults and/or older adults with complex mental health presentations. You will provide regular input to the multi-disciplinary team on your ward(s) in the form of consultation, team formulation sessions, teaching and joint working. You will be part of the Inpatients Psychology team, supervise one or two of the Assistant Psychologists your wards() and also receive peer support from the other ward Clinical/Counselling Psychologists. You will contribute to and/or lead on service development projects.

Main duties of the job

  • Work on allocated ward(s) - adults and/or PICU.
  • Engage in varied approaches to consultation to other hospital staff, e.g. team formulation, teaching sessions, joint working, supervision and staff support groups.
  • Supervise one or two Assistant Psychologists.
  • Clinical work with service users and carers involving assessment (including neuropsychological assessments), formulation and interventions with varied and complex presentations.
  • Be a valued members of important service development projects such as the Quality Improvement team in the Psychology Team, increasing our provision to people with experiences of psychosis and growing our training programme for all hospital staff.
  • There are opportunities for flexible working patterns which would include face to face clinical work as well as home working.

  • Registered and accredited with Health Professional Council (HPC)
  • Eligible for graduate membership of BPS (British Psychology Society) and for Chartered Clinical Psychology status and membership of the Division of Clinical Psychology as a result of training in models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology and at least 2 psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology
