Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time, enthusiastic band 3 Phlebotomist to join our CQC rated 'Outstanding' Trust.

We are looking for an experienced and well-motivated individual to join our Phlebotomy Team. The team works across Trust sites, mainly at West Berkshire Community Hospital and Prospect Park Hospital. This position will be mainly based at Prospect Park Hospital, but you will be expected to rotate to West Berkshire Hospital on occasion.

The service operates Monday to Friday between 07.45 and 15.15 hrs. This post is part-time and the post holder will be expected to work 08.00-13.00 hrs Monday to Fridays.

We are a busy, dynamic department and would like to hear from suitable qualified people.

You will have had recent phlebotomy experience (minimum 6 months) and are expected to complete our local competency assessments.

Main duties of the job

  • Work in the mental health hospital ward environment
  • Accurate identification of the patient
  • Provide a caring and professional service for users.
  • Ensure that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample.
  • Ensure safe collection of blood samples according to agreed procedures.
  • Ensure appropriate and accurate labelling and dispatch specimens to laboratories.
  • Maintain accurate and relevant records using computerised clinical system and written records as appropriate.

The3/4 "must haves" for you to be considered for this role:

  1. Phlebotomy qualification / GCSE or equivalent in Maths / English
  1. Previous experience essential
  1. Dealing with patients in a sympathetic and supportive way
  1. Excellent communication skills
