This is a fantastic opportunity to be involved in the development and shaping of a major new and innovative approach to mental health provision, working closely with all relevant providers within the individual's local community network. This post provides an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic and dedicated assistant psychologist to progress with the development of their clinical experience and skills within this important new area of service transformation.

What's special about this opportunity?

BOB (Berks, Oxford & Bucks) Integrated Care System was awarded NHS funding to transform community mental health services for people with serious mental health problems. A ground-breaking new model is being implemented to benefit those primary care patients who experience serious mental health problems.

The funding is enabling 15 Primary Care Network mental health teams to be developed. Each Primary Care Network, comprising a population of circa 30 - 50,000 patients, will host a multi-disciplinary team, which will work in close collaboration with other primary care and mental health services and clinicians, such as GPs, Specialist Mental Health Services, Social Care and Voluntary and Charitable providers to meet the needs of people with significant mental health problems.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide clinical input in the development and systematic provision of high quality, accessible and non-stigmatising mental health services within the local primary care network.
  • To support and enhance the professional psychological care of people who use the service by providing psychological assessment and evidence-based psychological interventions, under the supervision of a qualified psychologist working within the service, and by working independently according to a plan agreed with the operational lead and the supervising psychologist.

The "must haves" for you to be considered for this role:

  • A Psychology degree accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS) at 2.1 or above OR Degree plus Masters level conversion qualification accredited by the BPS.
  • Awareness, knowledge and skills of evidence-based psychological interventions as relevant to this role, particularly Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
  • High level of communication skills (written and verbal) including ability to communicate and work in mental health settings where the atmosphere may be highly emotional.
  • Ability to commute or travel between localities
