Job summary

We are looking for a highly motivated Occupational Therapist to join our established team in West Berkshire Community Hospital. Highclere and Donnington are community inpatient wards providing rehabilitation to adults across the West of Berkshire with a wide range of complex health needs.

Are you passionate about working with patients with complex needs to support their independence and function?

The post holder will have a range of Occupational Therapy skills and experience, be well organised and will be responsible for the delivery of a high-quality service as part of the MDT. The post involves working alongside the Inpatient Services Manager and Therapy Lead and is a mix of both a clinical case load and the management of junior colleagues. This requires someone with effective communication skills, a flexible approach, and an ability to work under pressure, both as part of a multi-disciplinary team and independently.

There is a strong professional leadership structure within our organisation, and you will be supported by the Therapy Lead in Community inpatients, the Inpatient Services Manager, and the Occupational Therapy Professional Lead.

This post will suit someone with leadership experience, but equally might appeal to someone looking to develop their leadership skills.

PLEASE NOTE THIS IS A FIXED TERM CONTRACT COVERING MATERNITY LEAVE AND WILL BE FOR A PERIOD OF BETWEEN 9 -12 MONTHS.

Main duties of the job

1. To ensure that own clinical practice and that of all qualified and non-qualified OT staff for whom you are responsible complies with appropriate professional and Trust standards and guidelines.2. To demonstrate specialist knowledge and understanding of the key concepts of biological, physical, social, psychological and clinical sciences in relation to occupational performance relevant to elderly care.3. To identify service developments & needs, to contribute to the planning, development, and evaluation of the service, and have responsibility for defined projects.4. To comply with organisational and departmental policies and procedures and to be involved in the reviewing and updating of processes as appropriate.5. To facilitate, establish and maintain clear and effective communication networks with a variety of people, professional and external agencies, e.g. patients, carers, multi-disciplinary team, GP practices, Community and Acute hospital staff.6. To be responsible for the clinical performance management and annual appraisal of staff that you line manage in accordance with the Knowledge and Skills framework.7. To provide highly specialist advice to OT colleagues, working both within the area of expertise and other clinical areas.

In addition to ensuring you develop the skills needed to deliver a high standard of personal professional care and treatment to the patients on our wards, BHFT is keen to provide access to any additional training.
