Job summary

This will be an exciting and challenging role that will support the Quality and Governance agenda for Berkshire Healthcare Mental Health services with a primary focus on Specialist Services ensuring the governance, patient safety and quality processes and structures of the services are robust and compliant.

The post holder will be expected to be an excellent communicator both verbally and in writing to provide information and advice to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including some or all of the following:

  • Berkshire Healthcare Foundation Trust Executives, Directors and Staff
  • Service Users, carers and their families.
  • Care Quality Commission (through the Clinical Director and Director of Nursing) and other external organisations.

This Governance role includes the co-ordination and management of investigations, complaints, and quality control and cover the following:

  • Formal Investigations
  • Serious Incidents requiring investigation
  • Coordination of consistent processes
  • Overseeing Datix and establishing themes
  • Risk management
  • Developing, embedding and monitoring action plans, and coordinating learning events.
  • Co-ordination of CQC Standards
  • Oversight of NICE guidelines

Main duties of the job

This position will ensure that all aspects of governance are addressed and will lead a culture of QI, service development and continual learning from patient safety information and data. The post holder will assist in establishing systems that ensure that statutory duties for reporting compliance across the range of activities are fulfilled.

The Governance Lead will support and liaise with the central patient safety team to coordinate investigations within the Specialist Mental Health services, quality and CQC standards and NICE guidelines. They will undertake the most complex investigations and support the clinicians undertaking other investigations developing the skills of the team.

The post holder will be expected to have prior experience in a quality improvement and governance role, be an excellent communicator both verbally and in writing to provide information and advice to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders.

The post holder will work closely with, and be supported by, both the Clinical Director and the Service Director for the portfolio and will play a leading role ensuring that governance and safety are embedded in practice throughout the portfolio.
