Job summary
This is a 12 month fixed term post for general paediatrics and neonates based at Warrington Hospital. The post is at tier 1 junior doctor grade and will work with other 8 doctors in tier 1 Rota. The duties of this post holder will include seeing paediatric patients referred to Paediatric assessment unit (PAU) from A&E and primary care, management of paediatric inpatients both on the Paediatric ward and on PAU, reviewing newborn babies on the postnatal ward (including NIPE examination) and attending high-risk deliveries.
The junior paediatricians do not have responsibilities on the neonatal unit but support the on-call team during admissions and emergencies.
The post is suitable for general paediatric training for a career in paediatrics, general practice or emergency medicine.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will work as part of the ST1-2 rota (1:9, full shift) and will participate in the on-call rota for general paediatrics and neonatology. The appointee will form an integral part of the Paediatrics clinical rota through the provision of medical cover on the Paediatric wards and Neonatal unit. In addition, the successful applicant will be involved with the admission and assessment of Paediatric emergencies. There will be a middle grade specialty trainee to support tier 1 team. The consultant do resident evening hours and weekend/bank holidays day hrs followed by on-call non-resident hrs. The appointee will be expected to undertake regular ward rounds and seek senior advice when deemed appropriate. The doctor will be expected to contribute to the regular teaching programmes timetabled for postgraduates as well as the undergraduates.
Child Protection work may arise out of hours, and the post holder will be expected to follow local guidelines. There will be a requirement to cooperate with all levels of management namely at CBU and senior management level.
