Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, enthusiastic Consultant to join our Respiratory Team at Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Warrington Hospital is the larger acute hospital in the Warrington and Halton Trust, with 578 in-patient beds. The second hospital, Halton General, has 42 in-patient beds, extensive out-patient services and a newly opened Urgent Care Centre. The ED at Warrington serves a population of over 310,000 people; it is open 24 hours daily and sees 85,000 new patients per year. There are a wide range of specialties on site including medicine, surgery, orthopaedics, ENT, ophthalmology, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology. Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospital has been rated 'Good' in its most recent CQC inspection.

Main duties of the job

Along with the existing Consultants the post holders will contribute to the delivery of consultant led board and ward rounds on the 28-bedded acute respiratory unit including the Respiratory High Dependency Unit. Job plan would include 2 to 3 weekly ward rounds/Board Rounds and Referral session, though the department aims towards flexibility in job plans to suit the appointee. Alongside, there would usually be a commitment to an average of 2 to 3 Outpatient clinics, which includes the Joint Chest (cancer) Clinic along with supporting the bronchoscopy/ EBUS lists alternate weeks with other colleagues. The post Holder will be required to provide cross cover for Lung PRE MDT and chair Lung MDT during colleague leave and absence.

The Respiratory team are looking to appoint a Respiratory Consultant. This is Permanent post, based at Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS ft. The appointee will play a key role in the development of our services and will contribute to the Respiratory service and the provision of outpatient clinics. The jobs attract payment at 10 PA per week. This will Include on call Commitment to Acute Medical Take on weekends as part of Acute medical Consultant On Call Rota.

Applicant with specific competencies or interests in subspecialty fields are encouraged to apply and development of specialist clinics within these areas will be fully supported, such as specialist ILD, sleep and ventilation clinics. The posts is associated with general medicine on call commitments which is currently 1 in 8 weekends. Following induction, the post holder will be usually expected to join the general medical on-call, centred around weekends in a 1:8 weekends format. This is remunerated in the standard 10 PAs. The intensity of this rota will be reviewed as the number of consultants increase. (CAT B). Additional sessions can be negotiated with Acute Medicine Team if the candidate wishes to undertake additional PAs.

  • oMRCP (or equivalent)
  • oFull GMC Registration
  • oCCT in Respiratory Medicine & General, Internal Medicine or within 6 months of attaining CCT at the time of interview
  • oOther routes to GMC Specialist registrar e.g. CeSR and European Community Rights
  • oALS Certification

Desirable

  • oMD/PhD or other equivalent higher degree
