Job summary

Warrington & Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust wishes to appoint a full time Locum Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon with a special interest in Medical Retina. We are taking applications for a locum position.

Main duties of the job

The candidate appointed will work on the Warrington site and will be expected to work in other Trust sites if there is further expansion to ophthalmology services.

This is a full-time post in Ophthalmology and will include General Ophthalmology on call cover of 1 in 14 for 2nd on call.

Applicants are required to be a Registered Medical Practitioner, to be fully registered with the General Medical Council and listed on the Specialist Register.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Responsibilities of the post will include delivering outpatient clinics, the development of virtual clinics if required, and theatre sessions. There will be an expectation to supervise surgical ophthalmology trainees in theatre and outpatients and undertake clinical teaching of medical and non-medical staff. Following induction, the post holder will be expected to join the on-call rota with a commitment of 1:14 second on call.

There are core clinical responsibilities and duties which will be expected to be fulfilled including:

Shared core clinical activities, to include triaging referrals, offer consultant support to junior members of staff

Managing outpatient clinics, in patient review and surgical waiting lists in conjunction with the relevant administrative teams.

Provide support to emergency clinics and give advice to the emergency triage service.

Communicating with families, GPs and other supporting professionals.

Attendance and participation at clinical governance and audit sessions.

Delivery of sub -specialty clinics.

Provide support to emergency clinics and junior staff when working on site.

May include remote sessions with a developed virtual service which is dependent on the subspecialty.

2 personal audits per year will be expected. In addition to CPD, teaching, research appraisal & assessment of trainees outside of DCCs.
